Memory consolidation requires the regulation of gene expression and protein synthesis, but the molecular signalling cascades that mediate such regulation are incompletely understood. In a new study, Dias et al. show that microRNA (miRNA)-mediated downregulation of Notch 1 signalling in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) is required for fear memory consolidation in mice.
