About the editors

Chief Editor Claudia Wiedemann

Before joining Nature Reviews Neuroscience, Claudia Wiedemann’s research had focused on phosphatidylinositol signalling pathways and regulated secretion. Claudia obtained her Ph.D. in the laboratory of Max Burger at the Friedrich-Miescher Institute, University of Basel, Switzerland. She then moved to study phosphatidylinositol transfer proteins in the laboratory of Shamshad Cockcroft in the Department of Physiology, University College London, UK. On becoming a Dorothy Hodgkin Research Fellow, she worked on lipid signalling pathways and vesicle trafficking and spent time in both the Department of Physiology and at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge, UK. She continued to study the molecular mechanisms of regulated secretion in her next assignment as a senior research fellow at the Centre for Molecular Cell Biology, University College London where she worked with Justin Hsuan. Claudia specializes in molecular and cellular neurobiology but has a very broad interest in all aspects of neuroscience.

Associate Editor Leonie Welberg

Leonie Welberg obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Edinburgh, UK, where she worked with Jonathan Seckl, investigating prenatal programming of stress-associated brain systems by glucocorticoids. In October 2000 she joined the lab of Paul Plotsky in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Emory University in Atlanta, USA. Here she studied the role of maternal behaviour in the regulation of hormonal and behavioural reactivity to stress in rats. In June 2004, she joined the Emory University Mind–Body Program under Andrew Miller, focussing on the relationship between immune activation and frontostriatal brain activity and its role in depression, fatigue and cognitive impairment in humans. Leonie’s main interests are systems, behavioural and cognitive neuroscience.

Associate Editor Katherine Whalley

Katherine Whalley obtained her Ph.D. from the Institute of Child Health, University College London, UK where she worked in the laboratory of Patrizia Ferretti and carried out research into the factors determining regenerative capacity in the developing spinal cord. Katherine gained experience of research in an industrial setting at Eli Lilly & Co., where she was involved in investigating neuroprotective compounds for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. She joined Nature Reviews in January 2006, working first as a Locum Associate Editor on Nature Reviews Drug Discovery before moving to become an Associate Editor on Nature Reviews Neuroscience. Katherine specializes in developmental, molecular and cellular aspects of neuroscience.

Assistant Editor Monica Hoyos Flight

Monica Hoyos Flight studied biochemistry at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, before completing her doctoral research on Wnt signalling, axonal remodelling and synaptogenesis at Imperial College London, UK. Monica joined Nature’s web publishing team in June 2005, where she worked as an editor on the Cell Migration and Signalling Gateways, before becoming an Assistant Editor on Nature Reviews Neuroscience and Nature Reviews Drug Discovery. Her main interests are cell/molecular biology and science communication; in her current role she is enjoying broadening her knowledge of all aspects of neuroscience and drug development.
