   Vaccines

A collection of articles from the Nature Publishing Group. Select the links below for full-text access.

Every person who reads this Web Focus on Vaccines - which accompanies the April 2002 issue of Nature Reviews Immunology - is likely to have been vaccinated at some point in their life. Vaccination has made important contributions to human health with numerous success stories - including the eradication of smallpox and, despite some recent hiccups, the virtual elimination of polio. Despite these successes, there is some way to go before we can claim to have overcome all vaccine-preventable diseases, particularly in developing countries. Today, more than ever, vaccine development is at the forefront of medical research. This Web Focus brings together Review and Perspective articles from Nature Reviews Immunology on HIV vaccines, strategies for developing vaccines against cancer and chronic infectious diseases, the induction of memory responses by vaccines, and ethical issues that surround vaccines and immunization. We have also included Highlight articles on vaccines from Nature Reviews Immunology, and to complete the collection, we have added some relevant recent research papers from other journals of the Nature Publishing Group, as well as Reviews and Comment articles.
