Innate immunity is the first line of defence against pathogens and is initiated rapidly after recognition of microbial products by receptors such as the Toll-like receptors (TLRs). Identifying the TLRs, their ligands and the signal transduction events that they initiate has provided insight into our understanding of how the immune response to infection begins, as highlighted in our Foreword. This Web Focus on TLR signalling accompanies the July 2004 issue of Nature Reviews Immunology and with the support of 3M Pharmaceuticals is available free online for three months (July-September). Included are articles from Nature Reviews Immunology that outline the signalling cascades initiated by TLR triggering and the therapeutic potential of targeting this pathway, as well as relevant Highlight articles from the journal. The TLR-signalling pathway is also illustrated in a poster that will be updated online every three months to incorporate the rapidly emerging new data. To complete the collection, we have added relevant papers published in the last year by other journals of the Nature Publishing Group. |
