Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects the motor system, resulting in progressive muscle weakness and — ultimately — death. The disease process is characterized by axonal retraction and the subsequent loss of upper and lower motor neurons. This animation focuses on the mechanisms that drive ALS pathogenesis.
