Novel pharmacotherapies for obesity poised to enter market
Abstract
The anti-obesity field has received a boost in recent months following the announcement of promising Phase III trial data for three therapies (Table 1). Lorcaserin (developed by Arena), phentermine plus topiramate (known as Qnexa; developed by Vivus) and bupropion plus naltrexone (known as Contrave; developed by Orexigen) all affect appetite and satiety — two key factors that drive eating behaviour — but through different mechanisms.
