About the authors
John P. Overington
John P. Overington graduated in chemistry from the University of Bath in 1987. Following this, he studied for a PhD at Birkbeck college, researching protein modelling and bioinformatics, where he gained his interest in combining biological and chemical research towards drug design. On completing his PhD in 1990, he took a postdoctoral position with the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. In 1992, John joined Pfizer in Sandwich, where he worked until 2000, at which time he joined Inpharmatica. At Inpharmatica, he led the building of a large-scale informatics platform for drug discovery.
Bissan Al-Lazikani
Bissan Al-Lazikani graduated in Molecular Biology from University College London in 1994 followed by a Masters in Computer Science from Imperial College. She obtained her PhD in computational biology from the MRC- LMB, Cambridge University. After a postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Biophysics at Columbia University, New York, she joined Inpharmatica Ltd in 2001 where she has been focusing on the application of informatics techniques to solve drug discovery challenges.
Andrew L. Hopkins
Andrew L. Hopkins graduated in chemistry from the University of Manchester in 1993. After a brief spell in industry, he undertook his doctoral research in structural biology and drug design in University of Oxford, in collaboration with GlaxoWellcome. On completing his D.Phil. in 1998, he joined the Target Analysis Group at Pfizer, Sandwich. The breadth of Dr Hopkins' research interests has led him, since then, to establish several new discovery groups in Pfizer including Indications Discovery, Knowledge Discovery and Chemogenomics.
