Abstract
Only long-term commitment can ensure that quantum information science eventually fulfils its promise of revolutionizing information-based societies. The history of quantum mechanics is a history of revolutions. Scientifically, its discovery represented a radical paradigm shift with respect to contemporary physical theories.
