Abstract
Today's optical data-storage technologies, such as CD, DVD and Blu-ray, use one-photon-absorption processes for writing and reading information. In particular, a bit of information is recorded when photons are absorbed and induce a change in the local reflectivity of the medium — often as phase or structural changes, or burning.
