Cover image detail
On page 816, Frankel and colleagues demonstrate that human dendritic cells (DCs) are permissive for the growth of dengue virus (DV) and may be an early target of infection. Immature, but not mature, DCs can become infected with DV, and this infection prevents their further maturation. Shown in the cover image are several mature DCs surrounding a single DV-infected cell (bright red, bottom right). The light blue stain in the surrounding cells represents DC−lamp antibody staining within the lysosomal compartment, indicative of a mature dendritic phenotype.
