Cytokines regulate the immune response to transplanted tissue, and
are involved in determining whether a tranplant is accepted or rejected. Graft
rejection may reflect, in the end, as much the way in which the graft is poised
to respond to the cytokines as it does the particular cytokines produced by
the graft (pages 549−555).
