Calcineurin—the missing link in cardiac hypertrophy

Seigo Izumo & Hiroki Aoki

Cardiovascular Division, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts 02215, USA e-mail: sizumo@bidmc.harvard.edu

Transgenic mice that overexpress calcineurin develop cardiac hypertrophy, which can be prevented by treatment with immunosuppressive drugs that inhibit calcineurin.
