Modulation of events regulated by alpha2-adrenergic receptors counteracts heart failure by restoring proper signaling from the adrenal gland to the heart (pages 315–323).

G protein–coupled receptors (GPCRs) are the largest superfamily of receptors in the human genome. These cell surface receptors transduce signals of an amazing diversity: vision, smell, central and peripheral neurotransmission, and a host of hormone, autocrine and paracrine actions regulating virtually every organ—including the heart, lung, kidney and endocrine organs.
