kanjiThe neurotransmitter orexin regulates motivated behaviors such as arousal and feeding—and is now implicated in behaviors associated with addiction in rats. The release of orexin onto dopamine cells enables cocaine to induce the neuronal changes that lead to addiction-like behavior.
