Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a global killer – one-third of the world's population carry the organism in a latent form. Poor compliance with treatments has led to resistance problems, which have yet to be addressed due to a lack of new treatments in the last 40 years.
US $15 million invested
AstraZeneca is rising to the challenge with the addition of a new US $15 million Process R&D facility in Bangalore, India. This facility will complement our work towards our ultimate goals, to:
- Reduce therapy duration
- Eradicate latent disease
- Combat drug resistance
- Ensure anti-HIV therapy compatibility
Combining forces
The combined force of this new state-of-the-art laboratory complex with our three-year-old Discovery R&D facility in Bangalore and the Boston Infection research group will help to accelerate our research into TB.
