Cross-presentation: avoiding trafficking chaos?

Abstract
The stimulation of T cell immunity to viruses or tumors involves the presentation of viral or tumor antigens by antigen-presenting cells, in the context of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules, to antigen-specific cytotoxic T cells. However, this requires access of exogenously derived antigens to the MHC class I–restricted antigen presentation pathway, a phenomenon known as 'cross-presentation'.
