Autoimmunity and transplantation: a meeting at the crossroads in Berlin

At present, research in transplantation immunology is focused on developing strategies that lead to improved long-term survival without the occurrence of the severe side effects of chronic immunosuppression. Similarly, restoration of tolerance is the goal of the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
