S1P1 blocks Treg cells
Article by Liu et al.*FREE ACCESS*

Regulatory T cells (Treg cells) are necessary for maintaining peripheral tolerance. Chi and colleagues show that the receptor S1P1 negatively regulates thymic Treg cells production and blocks Treg cells cell activity via an Akt-mTor pathway.

Skin-tropic TH-22 cells
Articles by Duhen et al. Trifari et al.

Helper T cells become polarized to effect a 'division of labor'. Sallusto and Spits and colleagues identify a new subset of skin-homing helper T cells, TH-22 cells, that secrete interleukin 22.

Basophils act as effector cells in immunoglobulin E–mediated hypersensitivity responses. Artis, Nakanishi and Medzhitov and their colleagues report that basophils present antigen and induce T helper type 2 responses to helminths, allergens and immunoglobulin E immune complexes.

Regulating TLR signaling
Article by Wang et al.

E3 ubiquitin ligases are critical for innate and adaptive immunity. Cao and colleagues show that the E3 ubiquitin ligase Nrdp inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines while promoting the release of interferon-β in Toll-like receptor-triggered macrophages.

DAP12 drives M-CSF signals
Article by Otero et al.

Macrophage colony stimulating factor induces macrophage proliferation. Colonna and colleagues now show macrophage proliferation and survival involves DAP12-dependent β-catenin stabilization.

FOCUS ON Immune Signaling Cross-talk*FREE ACCESS*

Nature Immunology presents a focus on the complex interplay among signaling pathways operative in immune cells. The focus contains a specially commissioned overview, three review articles and two perspectives. Also included are highlights of recent research findings and several short comments—written by experts—providing in-depth insight into specific signal cross-talk points.
