Atmospheric chemistry: Pollution meets sea salt
Abstract
Chlorine has become infamous for its role in stratospheric ozone destruction, which led to the formation of the ozone hole and exposure of the Earth's surface to unhealthy levels of ultraviolet radiation. But chlorine can also promote ozone formation in the right chemical environment, which can be found, for example, near the Earth's surface.
