2: Tool plus tool

Exclusive to Nature, this film shows previously unseen footage of a wild chimpanzee foraging for termites but with a crucial difference — the use of two different tools.

The first tool was shown in the previous film. A thin branch is stripped of its leaves and pushed inside the termites' nest. As the branch is withdrawn the chimp eats the termites attached to the stick.

The second tool is a stouter, thicker stick that is used to create new openings in the nest to extract termites from.
