1: Termite feast
This film shows footage of wild chimpanzees foraging for termites. They do this by stripping a thin branch of its leaves and pushing this tool inside the termites nest. As the branch is withdrawn the chimps eat the termites attached to the stick.
Observations of young female chimpanzees watching their mother's termite 'fishing' skills suggest this behaviour may be learned socially, and young female chimps take more interest than young males.
This behaviour, which is also used to forage for other insects such as ants, was only discovered in the late 1960s and has since been found among many chimpanzee troops in Western Africa.
