December 2000: Cassini passes within 10 million kilometres of Jupiter and takes a series of highly detailed photographs. The only visible features on Jupiter are its clouds, which are made of ammonia, hydrogen sulphide and water ice. The prominent dark band in the northern half of the planet is Jupiter's fastest jet stream, with eastward winds of 480 kilometres per hour.
