Chinese dam may be a methane menace

Wetlands around Three Gorges produce tonnes of the greenhouse gas.

Marshland created when China's Three Gorges Reservoir is partially drained during the summer may be a significant source of the powerful greenhouse gas methane, researchers say.

The findings, published in the Journal of Geophysical Research1, are among the latest to raise questions over the green credentials of hydropower.

  • methane emission from dam is not a problem only for china but for the whole world.dams are created for multipurpose uses.flood control,hydro-electricity,bridge, harvesting and fisharies are related with a dam.infact dam helps us in many ways.but the recent findings of methane emission from dam can not be ignored.methane emission theory can be apply to ponds ,lakes,vast submerged area also.now scientists look for newer method how to curb methane emission from submerged botanical elements.
