African disease labs to get health check

Rating system for labs could improve diagnosis and lift standards.

An accreditation system that aims to raise standards of disease diagnosis in African medical laboratories was launched today in Kigali, Rwanda.

The process, developed by the World Health Organization in collaboration with the US government, will allow African pathology labs to move up a five-point scale as they improve their quality of service, with a 'five-star' rating being equivalent to a good lab in a developed country.
