So Martin Rees thinks that scientific research should be placed with business and enterprise. I wonder how his field of study would fare with that.
This is one more example of why science should not be funded by government and needs to be protected from the political process by private initiatives. Government belongs in no role that sets the agenda for science. Science in the UK and the USA are at the end of the road that leads to serfdom. I urge institutions in both countries to reject government money and appeal to private initiatives to enable a different way forward. Be bold people.
