Bill Chadwick
A volcanologist reveals how undersea eruptions can be a boon for some species.
From 3–17 April, a research team led by Bill Chadwick of Oregon State University in Newport observed the eruption of Northwest Rota–1, a massive undersea volcano in the Pacific Ocean. As a bonus, they identified several deep-sea species new to science.
