  • Ever since the catastrophic West Sumatra earthquake that generated the monstrous tsunami in December 2004, sweeping away more than 250,000 lives, an increasing number of quakes (albeit of lesser magnitudes) have been recorded. Meantime, the volcanoes in the Pacific ?Ring of Fire? appear to be more agitated and active, with intermittent eruptions reported. The Indonesian archipelagos, in particular, are more vulnerable and subject to such impacts frequently, with signs showing quakes of higher Richter scale in the pipeline. This could help trigger fiercer volcanic eruptions in the Pacific ring. Be prepared, so as to minimize the loss of invaluable lives. (Tan Boon Tee)
