Caribbean volcanoes implicated in Cretaceous killing spree
Osmium isotopes prove origins of mass-extinction event
A massive volcanic eruption under the present-day Caribbean was responsible for a mass extinction that occurred 93 million years ago, say geologists.
Scientists had previously suspected that volcanic activity was behind a sudden and mysterious loss of oxygen in the world's oceans around the time of the Late Cretaceous.
