When 5,000 materials scientists get together, is their behaviour ordered or disordered? Jenny Hogan is at the Materials Research Society's meeting in Boston to find out.
It's the final day of the meeting, and the hallways of the vast Hynes convention centre are echoing and empty. Most of the sessions wound up yesterday, and most of the few that have spilled into Friday morning finish at lunchtime.
