Robots rev up for Grand Challenge contest

Computer-controlled vehicles will race to the death.

A fleet of unmanned vehicles is lining up to compete in the Grand Challenge, a 350-kilometre race over rough terrain from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

The event is organized by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which hopes it will aid the development of unmanned military vehicles for use in combat.
