Plutonium goes with the flow

Significant quantities of the element plutonium have been introduced into the environment as a result of nuclear weapons testing and production, and nuclear power-plant accidents. Nonetheless many countries are looking into storing their nuclear waste underground: it has long been argued that the pollution risk would be minimal due to the low solubility of plutonium in ground water, coupled with its strong affinity for rocks.
