Fiddler crabs see predators above the horizon
Male fiddler crabs greet other fiddler crabs they encounter by stopping and waving their claws, either as a courtship gesture to a female or a sizing-up manoeuvre towards another male. But when a predator passes they either freeze or scuttle away rapidly into their burrows.
