Hot pepper repels pests
Chinese spices drive away hungry voles
Farmerscould stop prairie voles from eating their crops by spraying extracts from Szechuan pepper around the plants. The hot sauce could deter animals that seem immune to other fiery chemicals, such as the capsaicin in chillies.
