Tiny transistors to lift lid on cell life

Silicon sensors show cell's molecular machinery working in real time.

"We need to view the cell as a video game and learn how to play it," Jim Heath of the University of California at Los Angeles told this week's Materials Research Society Meeting in Boston. To do so would make drug effects easier to understand and predict, and so could cut drug development times from years to days.
