Antacids pro bacteria
Heartburn treatments might shield food-borne bacteria from stomach acid
Antacids may relieve heartburn but they could make the gut more vulnerable to bacteria, increasing the risk of food poisoning from raw shellfish1.
Without antacid, acidic digestive juices can eliminate Vibrio vulnificus, a potentially fatal bacterium found in raw shellfish, in about 30 minutes.
