Fatal fungi thrive on fat
Yeast wreaks havoc by changing its eating habits
By feasting on fats instead of its usual sugars, the infectious yeast Candida albicans may find a safe-haven inside living cells1. The change in diet seems to underpin the microbe's ability to cause intractable, often fatal, infections in people with weakened immune systems.
