Storage of the fittest
Evolution might help extend vegetables' shelf lives.
If, like me, you drift around the supermarket in a slack-jawed trance, you won't have thought about the scientific effort that lies behind the products in your trolley. What, for example, could darwinian evolution have to do with shredded cabbage? It turns out that the concepts of one can help work out how best to package the other.
