Memories are made of glass

A new material brings the 3D compact disk closer.

"This is my music collection," says your host, taking out a tray of what look like small ice-cubes and dropping one into his hi-fi system to provide the evening's soundtrack.

This far-fetched scenario comes one step closer with the announcement of what could be the first material suitable for making holographic optical storage disks1.
