Glow in the spark silicon
A silicon light-emitting diode is the marriage of electronics and photonics that miniaturization has been waiting for.
A light-emitting device based on silicon promises to end what has become an uncomfortable marriage. By uniting silicon microelectronics and optical data transmission, the new device could hasten in a fresh era of telecommunications technology.
