Air over Indian Ocean feels the burn
Fires could put Asia alongside its western neighbours in the big league of global air polluters.
Agricultural and domestic fires are largely responsible for the giant pall of soot and toxic gas that covers much of the Northern Indian Ocean every winter, the Indian Ocean Experiment (INDOEX) now reveals. This experiment suggests that Asia is moving up to join its western neighbours in the big league of global air polluters1.
