Science is all about networking
Patterns of scientific collaboration shed light on the structure of society.
In his 1990 play Six Degrees of Separation John Guare claimed that: "Everybody on this planet is separated by only six other people." No one is sure whether this is true because friendship networks are notoriously hard to track.
