The killing fields

Exposure to extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields could be not just dangerous but deadly, reports Helen Gavaghan.

Suicide is one of the most emotionally difficult areas of research, and how the very-low-frequency electromagnetic fields associated with electricity generation and electrical appliances affect health is one of the most controversial. Now research looking at suicide among workers in the electricity industry has linked the two areas, suggesting that exposure to extremely low-frequency fields may increase the risk of suicide.
