NCS-1 Stirs Somnolent Synapses

Robert S Zucker

Robert Zucker is at the Division of Neurobiology, Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of California, 111 Life Sciences Addition, Berkeley, California 94720−3200, USA. zucker@socrates.berkeley.edu

How is synaptic facilitation mediated? New work suggests that a calcium-sensing molecule, neuronal calcium sensor-1 (NCS-1) transduces a residual calcium signal into an enhancement of transmitter release at excitatory synapses in the hippocampus.
