Regenerating your senses: multiple roles for neurogenesis in the adult brain

Since the initial discovery that the adult brain contains stem cells that generate new neurons, an important question in neurobiology has been whether or not this adult neurogenesis is functionally important. Although a substantial body of work has shown that some of these new, adult-born neurons integrate into active neural circuits, the magnitude and importance of this integration has been unclear.
