Viewpoint
The importance of crossing vessels in ureteropelvic junction obstruction
232With the popularization of laparoscopic and robotic pyeloplasty has come a resurgence in the debate over the role of crossing vessels in the pathogenesis of UPJ obstruction. In this Viewpoint, the authors examine the evidence and argue that crossing vessels are implicated in the etiology of UPJ obstruction and are important because of their potential to lead to cause surgical complications if they are not recognized.

The management of superficial bladder cancer
254This Review discusses the management of nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer. Approaches to intravesical chemotherapy are described, including the impact of chemotherapy on the recurrence and progression of tumors. The effect of intravesical immunotherapy in bladder cancer is also explored, as well as the role of early cystectomy.

Ablative techniques for the management of kidney cancer
261Probe-ablative techniques for small kidney cancer lesions are being investigated as alternatives to partial nephrectomy in selected patients. Advances in imaging guidance that are improving outcomes and the minimally invasive nature make this approach to therapy attractive. This Review provides a critical evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques.

Candidate genes and their response to environmental agents in the etiology of hypospadias
270An unexplained increase in the prevalence of the congenital anomaly hypospadias led researchers to investigate the molecular events and genetic expression that underlie this disorder. This Review provides an overview of findings in mice and humans that relate to urethral development, candidate genes and steroid receptor expression, and describes the influence of environmental triggers.
