A switch to anastrozole increases the efficacy of adjuvant therapy for breast cancer

Five years of tamoxifen has long been the standard adjuvant therapy for women with hormone-sensitive early-stage breast cancer; however, tamoxifen is associated with a number of adverse effects, and certain patients seem to develop resistance to this agent. Thus, a number of specialty guidelines now recommend switching patients to anastrozole therapy after 2–3 years of adjuvant tamoxifen.
