ERCC1 expression can predict survival in patients with advanced head and neck cancer

Expression of the excision repair cross complementation group 1 (ERCC1) enzyme has been linked to platinum resistance in various cancer cell lines. ERCC1 expression was shown to predict survival benefit of cisplatin-based chemotherapy in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer. A study by Handra-Luca et al. has evaluated the role of ERCC1 in tumor response and survival in patients with head and neck cancer treated with cisplatin-based chemotherapy.
