Occult gynecologic malignancies in BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers

Carriers of BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations have the highest known lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer. Prophylactic removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes at an early age is one option for these patients. In one of the largest studies yet reported, a Canadian research group has published an analysis of occult cancer diagnosis in 159 BRCA1/2 carriers who underwent prophylactic salpingo-oophorectomies.
