Major developments in adjuvant treatment of early HER2-positive breast cancer

A recent paper by Piccart-Gebhart et al. published in the New England Journal of Medicine presents one of the most important developments in the treatment of early breast cancer since the introduction of tamoxifen. The international, open-label, randomized herceptin adjuvant (HERA) (Breast International Group [BIG] 01-01) trial reported an approximate 50% decrease in the rate of disease recurrence in patients receiving adjuvant trastuzumab.
