B-cell depletion shows therapeutic potential in relapsing–remitting MS

Evidence is accumulating to indicate that B lymphocytes have an important role in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). In a phase II, double-blind trial, Hauser et al. examined whether rituximab—a monoclonal antibody that depletes CD20+ B cells—could ameliorate disease activity in patients with relapsing–remitting MS.
